New CEO John Ternus makes more executive changes in efforts to promote from within.

New CEO John Ternus is making some exec changes in efforts to promote from within, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says in his latest “Power On” newsletter.

The move doesn’t involve firing folks, but making changes to cover positions vacated by folks who are retiring. Wei Chen and John Zhong, both of whom worked on Apple’s display technology, are stepping back from their leadership roles and instead becoming advisors, he adds.

Gurman says this is intended to be a transition for the guys after more than 30 years working for Apple. The two have purportedly been mentoring Victor Yin, vice president of Display Hardware, to replace at least some of their roles for some years.

Also, Rajesh Ambati (Senior Director Software Engineering), Louie Sanguinetti (Director, Wireless Hardware Engineering), and Derek Shaeffer (Vice President, Engineering) have now all been promoted to vice president status.

Power On is exclusively for Bloomberg.com subscribers. Get the full Power On newsletter every week — plus unlimited access to every featured article and a Q&A with Gurman— when you subscribe to the Tech Newsletter Bundle.
