Apple and LG are teaming for new smart home devices, including a lock, doorbell, indoor camera, thermostat, and more, according to a report from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.
The products will be part of an ecosystem of devices that work with Apple’s new smart home hub, as well as an upgraded HomePod mini and refreshed Apple TV set-top box, the article adds, quoting unnamed “people with knowledge of the matter.” The devices are expected to be unveiled on October 13, along with the long-rumored smart home hub from Apple — which the rumor mill has dubbed the “HomePad.” The new Apple devices are set to be introduced on Oct. 13.
Though the two companies worked together to develop the accessories, the products will carry the LG brand, according to Gurman. The South Korean firm is handling manufacturing and product support.
The “HomePad” is expected to have a speaker (of course), a 7-inch display, an operating system that’s built around Siri AI that looks “like a mashup of iOS and watchOS.” Gurman has said it will tailor its display and data to different users using AI facial recognition instead of Face ID.
