References discovered in macOS beta code indicate Apple is designing its own game controllers, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reiterated in his latest “Power On” newsletter (a subscription is required to read the article).
He says the controllers may be released under the Beats brand. That makes no sense to me, but we’ll see.
Gurman says the code findings hint at the development of two controllers, with model identifiers T6502 and T1057 respectively. The code findings showed evidence of a D-Pad, thumbsticks, haptic motors, and possibly an integrated accelerometer and gyroscope for motion controls.
Gurman’s report mostly aligns with one shared on the MacRumors forums by member pdfu. There are GameController profiles for two hardware devices identified as T6502 and T1057, which Pdfu suggests could be Apple gaming controllers in development.
The two controllers have different haptic designs and standard controller components, like a D-pad, dual thumbsticks, shoulder buttons, Home and Menu buttons, and analog triggers. T1057 also has accelerometer and gyroscope support, while T6502 doesn’t.
