Broadcasts developer Steven Troughton-Smith says macOS Golden Gate betas seem to hint at the rumored MacBook Pro — predicted to be dubbed the “MacBook Ultra” — with an OLED display.
As noted by MacRumors, Troughton-Smith says many Liquid Glass interface elements on the macOS Golden Gate beta have an even glassier appearance on certain high-end OLED displays with HDR support than they do on ordinary displays.
The MacBook Ultra is anticipated to be the first Mac laptop with an OLED touch display in a slimmer, lightweight a pill-shaped Dynamic Island instead of a display notch. It’s also expected (or at least hoped) that it will add cellular connectivity options.
Supply chain reports estimate a MacBook Ultra starting price of roughly $2,499 for a 14-inch model and $2,999 for a 16-inch model. That would be approximately a 20% premium over current MacBook Pro tiers.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has said that even though Apple has introduced M6 processors, the first touchscreen Mac will use M5 Pro and M5 Mac chips. If we’re lucky, the MacBook Ultra will arrive this October. However, some reports says that memory shortages could push it to early 2027.
