How to Schedule a Message to ‘Send Later’ in macOS Sequoia

iPadOS 18’s Messages sports new animated text effects, redesigned Tapbacks that expand to include any emoji or sticker, and new text formatting options, including bold, underline, and italics. 

With macOS Sequoia, you can now schedule messages in, well, Messages to be sent later. 

To do this, you have to be online. And you have to be using Messages with macOS Sequoia, iOS 18, iPadOS 18, watchOS 11, visionOS 2 or later. However, the recipient of the message can receive it on any device — and won’t know that the message was scheduled.You can schedule a message up to 14 days into the future. 

To schedule a message:

° Launch Messages.

° Choose a conversation.

° Click the “+” button, and click Send Later.

° Select the date and time you want to send your message.

° Enter your message, then hit Return to schedule it.

The scheduled message appears with a dashed line around it and is stored on a server until it’s time to send it.

You can change when a message is sent until its delivery time. To reschedule a message:

° Launch Messages.

° Select the conversation with the message you want to reschedule. 

° Scroll to the bottom of the conversation if you don’t see your message (scheduled messages appear below other sent messages).

° Click control/click.

 ° Choose Edit in the conversation (above your scheduled message), then do any of the following:

° If you choose, Edit Time, you can select a new time, then click away from the schedule to commit the new time. TO send it immediately, click Send Message.

To edit a scheduled message

You can edit a scheduled message until its delivery time.

° With Messages open, select the conversation with the message you want to edit.

° Scroll to the bottom of the conversation if you don’t see your message.

° Control-click the message you want to change, then choose Edit.

° After you’ve made the changes, click the checkmark icon to resend with edits or “X” to revert the message to its unedited stage.

To delete a scheduled message

° With Message open, choose the conversation with the message you want to delete.

° Scroll to the bottom of the conversation if you don’t see your message.

° Click Edit in the conversation (above your scheduled message), then choose Delete Message.
