Messages offers a convenient way to share attachments if you lose track of one and want to locate it again.

Messages offers a convenient way to share attachments if you lose track of one and want to locate it again.  Here’s how to find attachments within a specific Messages conversation on iOS 16 or iPadOS 16:

Viewing Conversation Details

To see everything shared in a specific chat, use these quick steps:

  • Open the Apple Support guide steps by launching the Messages app and opening your desired conversation.
  • Tap the contact’s name or group icon at the very top of the chat window.
  • Scroll down or swipe through the categories—such as Photos, Links, and Documents—to browse shared files.

Troubleshooting Missing Attachments

If expected files or images do not appear under a contact’s profile:

  • Users on the Apple Support Community reach a consensus that empty categories usually mean no media of that specific type was saved or sent in that thread.
  • Check that Messages in iCloud is enabled via your device Settings if media fails to sync across your Apple devices
  • Touch and hold any file to save, copy, share, or delete it directly.
