Apple’s Mac mini is going to get even mini-er

Mac mini

Apple is planning a new version of the Mac mini that will be its smallest desktop computer yet, part of a broader overhaul of the Mac line with AI-focused chips, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

The new model — due later this year — will mark the first major design change to the mini since it was revamped under Steve Jobs in 2010, he says, quoting unnamed “people with knowledge of the matter.” The device will be far smaller than its predecessor, approaching the size of an Apple TV set-top box, they said.

Gurman says the revamped Mac mini will sport at least three USB-C ports on the back, as well as an HDMI port. He adds that Apple plans two versions of the ‌2024 Mac mini‌: one with the standard M4 chip (a la the ‌iPad Pro)‌, and one with an M4 Pro chip. The base model is purportedly set to begin shipping from suppliers this month ahead of release later in the year, while the high-end model will not be ready until October.
