Macworld has discovered iOS 27 beta code containing plural references to “batteries” in iPhones, suggesting Apple is developing a dual-battery device architecture.
This finding aligns with supply chain reports about Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone Ultra, which would require separate batteries on each side of the hinge, the report notes. Previous iOS 27 betas also included angle detection and fold state features, “strengthening evidence that Apple’s first foldable iPhone launch may be approaching,” per Macworld.
Apple is expected to debut a foldable iPhone — likely to be dubbed either the “iPhone Fold” or “iPhone Ultra” — in September or October, barring any design issues. Predictions for the foldable iPhone’s pricing were pegged at between $2,000 and $2,500. However, recent rumors say memory and storage shortages could push those prices to between $2,200 and $2,275.
