Rumor: Apple already working on its 6G plans for iPhones

iPhones may have only recently gotten 5G capabilities, but Apple is already hiring engineers to work on next-generation 6G wireless technology, according to a report by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.

The article says the tech giant has posted job ads for wireless system research engineers for current and next-generation networks. The listings are for jobs at Apple’s offices in Silicon Valley and San Diego, where the company works on wireless tech development and chip design.

6G will be the sixth generation of wide-area wireless technology. It’s the planned successor to 5G and will likely be significantly faster, at speeds of ~95 Gbit/second.
