Apple fined $2 million for violating workers’ employment rights

<p>A California court has ruled in favor of Apple Store workers who accused the Cupertino, California-based company of violating their employment rights, reports The Register. A jury has awarded store staff $2 million after Apple was found to have illegally denied them meal and rest breaks, and was late giving departing workers their final paychecks.</p>

watchOS 3.1.1 pulled after ‘bricking’ some Apple Watches

<p>Well, this is embarrassing. Yesterday Apple <a target="_blank" href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2016/12/12/apple-rolls-out-watchos-311-with-a-variety-of-bug-fixes" rel="noopener noreferrer">released watchOS 3.1.1</a>  to squish various bugs. Now, as noted by <a target="_blank" href="http://www.macrumors.com" rel="noopener noreferrer">MacRumors</a>, the update has been pulled because it’s bricking some Apple Watches.</p>

Apple’s Tim Cook is among ‘The World’s Best-Value CEOs’

<p>Apple CEO Tim Cook's $10 million in compensation “isn't chump change, but it's a bargain when you compare that to the company's massive average economic profit over the last three years,” notes <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2016-best-value-ceos/" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bloomberg</a>, which has compiled a list of “The World’s Best-Value CEOs.” Cook places 11th on the list.</p>

TankBot, the first Jimu robot that runs on treads, is iOS compatible

<p><a target="_blank" href="http://www.ubtrobot.com" rel="noopener noreferrer">UBTECH Robotics</a> has rolled out the TankBot, the latest addition to its line of STEM-friendly Jimu Robots for kids and teens. It’s the first Jimu Robot to run on tank treads and features an infrared sensor that allows it to follow commands to detect, pick up or maneuver around objects. </p>

Apple picked a bad time to discontinue its line of wireless routers

<p>If Apple is indeed <a target="_blank" href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2016/11/21/apple-reportedly-discontinuing-its-airport-express-the-airport-extreme-airport-time-capsule-line?rq=wireless%20routers" rel="noopener noreferrer">discontinuing its line of wireless routers</a>, including its Time Capsule, it may have picked a bad time to so do. A new report from Beige Market Intelligence says the global consumer and enterprise NAS market will be worth $44 billion by 2021. What’s more, Apple is the market leader in the U.S. in the consumer segment, and Dell is the leader in the large enterprise NAS user segment.</p>

Apple rumored to be considering a $1 billion investment in the SoftBank Vision Fund

<p>The SoftBank Group, a Japanese Internet and telecommunications giant, <a href="http://seekingalpha.com/news/3213939-softbank-put-25b-newly-created-technology-investment-fund">disclosed the SoftBank Vision Fund</a> in mid-October, noting plans for SoftBank alone to invest at least $25 billion in the vehicle over the next five years and for the fund to reach size of up to $100 billion. </p>
