Apple will assemble iPhones in India starting in April

<p>Apple will begin <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-03/apple-set-to-begin-making-iphones-in-india-by-april-s-end">assembling</a> iPhones in India by the end of April, heightening its focus on the world's fastest-growing major smartphone market. The Cupertino, California-based company has tapped Taiwan's Wistron Corp.) to put together the smartphones in the tech capital of Bangalore in Karnataka, said Priyank Kharge, the state's IT minister.</p>

Apple hires Spotify’s former vice prez of Content

<p>Apple hired former Steve Savoca, Spotify’s former vice president of Content, last month, an Apple spokesperson told <a target="_blank" href="http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-hires-former-spotify-executive-steve-savoca-2017-2" rel="noopener noreferrer">Business Insider</a>. His title at the Cupertino, California-based company is Label Relations.</p>

Tim Cook wins the Newseum 2017 Free Expression Award in the Free Speech category

<p>The Newseum has announced that Apple CEO Tim Cook will receive the Newseum’s <a target="_blank" href="http://www.newseum.org/freeexpressionawards/" rel="noopener noreferrer">2017 Free Expression Award</a> in the Free Speech category. Cook, who has led Apple since August 2011, will be recognized “for his leadership in creating technology that has had a profound impact on how we communicate.”</p>

iPhone U.S. installed base has reached 132 million

<p>Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), has released its analysis of the results from its research on Apple for the fiscal quarter that ended Dec. 31, 2016. The research group found that the iPhone U.S. installed base reached 132 million units as of the end of 2016.</p>

Strategy Analytics: Apple sold 5.2 million smartwatches in the fourth quarter

<p>According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.strategyanalytics.com/access-services/devices/wearables/market-data/report-detail/global-smartwatch-vendor-market-share-by-region-q4-2016#.WJIqzlOLSUl" rel="noopener noreferrer">global smartwatch shipments grew 1% annually</a> to hit a record 8.2 million units in the fourth quarter of 2016. Apple Watch drove growth and dominated with 63% global smartwatch marketshare, while Samsung maintained second position.</p>

Apple reportedly working on ARM chips for upcoming Macs

<p>I’ve said before that it’s only a matter of time until all of Apple’s hardware devices will be powered by ARM-based processors, including the Mac. A<a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-02-01/apple-developing-new-mac-chip-in-test-of-intel-independence" rel="noopener noreferrer"> new Bloomberg report</a>, quoting unnamed “people familiar with the matter,” says Apple is designing a new chip for future Mac laptops that would take on more of the functionality currently handled by Intel processors.</p>
