Apple’s Lisa Jackson praises TSMC for its environmental progress

<p>Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) — a key supplier of mobile processors for, among other things, the iPhone — says it will purchase 200 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of green power in 2016 compared to the previous year’s purchase of 100 million kWh, further supporting Taiwan’s renewable energy development and environmentally friendly low-carbon measures.</p>

USAT: consumers respond to Apple Pay messaging with more payments

IDC: wearables shipments to reach 213.6 million units in 2020 with watches and wristbands driving volume

<p>More good news for the Apple Watch: Worldwide shipments of wearable devices are expected to reach 101.9 million units by the end of 2016, representing 29.0% growth over 2015. According to the International Data Corporation (<a href="http://www.idc.com/">IDC</a>) <a href="http://www.idc.com/tracker/showproductinfo.jsp?prod_id=962">Worldwide Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker</a>, the market for wearable devices will experience a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.3%, culminating in 213.6 million units shipped in 2020</p>

Apple opens its first retail store in Macau

Apple wants Gatekeeper in macOS to guard the gate even more fervently

<p>Apple will further lock down what apps can be run on Macs when it releases macOS Sierra this fall, reports <a target="_blank" href="http://www.computerworld.com/article/3084432/apple-mac/apple-tries-to-stymie-malware-with-changes-to-macos-sierras-gatekeeper.html" rel="noopener noreferrer">Computerworld</a>. The move is “likely a response” to revelations last year that Gatekeeper -could be easily bypassed by attackers to plant malware on machines.</p>

macOS Sierra will bid adieu to Flash

<p>Adios, Flash. In a blog post — as noted by <a target="_blank" href="http://thenextweb.com/apple/2016/06/15/apple-finally-ditching-flash-safari-macos-sierra/" rel="noopener noreferrer">The Next Web</a> — Apple developer Ricky Mondello said that when macOS Sierra ships later this year, Safari will default to HTML5 content implementations on websites when available. </p>

Fluent poll: Siri unlikely to increase iPhone sales (which is the opposite of previous survey results)

<p>This brings to mind the ol’ saw that 99% of all statistics are made up: a survey by <a target="_blank" href="http://www.fluentco.com" rel="noopener noreferrer">Fluent</a>, a database marketing company, <a target="_blank" href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2016/6/8/survey-a-more-powerful-siri-will-be-a-key-factor-in-future-iphone-sales?rq=Fluent" rel="noopener noreferrer">released earlier this month </a>said that updates to Siri and the unlocking of the personal digital assistant's software development kit could be a key factor in future iPhone adoption. Today new research from Fluent says that Siri is <em>unlikely</em> to increase iPhone sales.</p>

Apple to mandate App Transport Security for iOS apps by year’s end

<p>During a security presentation at this week’s Worldwide Developers’ Conference, Apple said that Jan. 1, 2017, is the deadline for all iOS apps in the App Store to implement a security feature called App Transport Security (ATS), reports <a target="_blank" href="http://techcrunch.com/2016/06/14/apple-will-require-https-connections-for-ios-apps-by-the-end-of-2016/" rel="noopener noreferrer">TechCrunch</a>.</p>
