<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">The trade war between the U.S. and China began affecting Apple on Sept. 1 as a 15% tariff hit AirPods, Apple Watches, and headphones, reports <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-08-30/trump-trade-war-with-china-will-hit-apple-for-real-this-weekend" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bloomberg.</a> U.S. levies on iPhones will take place in December.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple <a href="https://support.apple.com/screen-replacement-program-apple-watch-series-2-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">has announced</a> a screen replacement program for aluminum models of the Series 2 and Series 3 Apple Watch.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple has filed for yet another patent (number 10,396,578) that hints that, though it scrapped plans for the AirPower device, it’s still looking into a next generation wireless charging system. It’s for a wireless charging mat that wirelessly transmits power to an electronic device that is placed on the mat. </p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they're popular and deserve mention. Here are this week’s picks.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">With its Health app, the HealthKit developer app,and Apple Watch features. Apple has focused a lot of its attention on the health and wellness field in recent months. Now the tech giant has filed for a patent (number 20190261669) for “methods and compositions to improve weight loss and cardiometabolic health beyond diet and exercise.”</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple will have its next big media event on, as rumored, Tuesday, Sept. 10. Dubbed “By innovation only,” it will be held at 10 a.m. at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple has announced a new repair program, offering customers additional options for the most common out-of-warranty iPhone repairs. </p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple has filed for a patent (number 20190265808) for a “computer stylus having integrated antenna and sensor structures” that shows it plans further improvements to the Apple Pencil’s performance.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">There have been rumors of foldable iPhones and iPads. I’ve been dubious, but a new Apple patent filing hints that the tech giant is investigating such devices.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">I’m not sure what to make of this, but Apple has released the first public betas of iOS 13.1 and iPadOS 13.1 — even though the non-beta versions of the operating system updates aren’t yet available.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple is poised to start online sales of its devices in India within months, reports <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-08-28/apple-to-benefit-from-new-indian-rules-on-foreign-investment" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Bloomberg,</a> quoting an unnamed “person familiar with the matte.” The tech giant would benefit from new rules making the world’s fastest-growing smartphone market more attractive to foreign brands, the report adds (a subscription is required to read the entire article).</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Despite a 10.4% decline in the fourth quarter, Apple continues to dominate the smartphone market in Japan. According to the <a href="http://www.canalys.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Canalys research group</a>  its market share exceeded 50% for the first time in 2018. That’s up from 48% in 2017 and 48.2% in 2016.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple has issued a statement about Siri’s privacy protections. The tech giant halted the Siri grading program earlier this month.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">It’s probably no surprise that those of us who bought Apple Watches and HomePods as soon as they were available are likely to be the first ones to shell out for “Apple Glasses” (the rumored name for Apple’s rumored augmented reality/virtual reality headset expected in 2020 or 2021).</p>
