Apple Daily Report: Apple to announce fourth quarter finances on Nov. 1 (and more news)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out.

Announced in an update to its Investor Relations webpage, Apple’s fourth quarter conference call is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. (Pacific).

Consumer Reports has published their final test results for the iPhone XS and XS Max. The study shows battery life improvements with both the iPhone XS and the XS Max outperforming Apple’s reported numbers, and the publication’s expectations.

DxOMark has published the results of its in-depth analysis of the iPhone XS Max’s rear camera. Apple’s flagship smartphone achieved an overall score of 105 points, trailing only the Huawei P20 Pro at 109 in the site’s all-time rankings. 



Apple, Facebook, Alphabet and Amazon will oppose an Australian law that would require them to provide access to private encrypted data linked to suspected illegal activities.

Publishers, burned by Facebook, are now looking “with no small amount of optimism to Apple,” which has quietly wooed publishers over the past year with a small team of its own Apple News editorial staff, huddling with publisher editorial teams in publisher offices, according to Digiday

The Federal Communications Commission’s much-anticipated amended framework for the 3.5 GHz band is based on 10-year, county-sized licenses that are assumed renewable instead of smaller and shorter-duration census-tract licenses, according to Commissioner Michael O’Rielly’s office.

The Wi-Fi Alliance has introduced Wi-Fi 6 as the industry designation for products and networks that support the next generation of Wi-Fi, based on 802.11ax technology. Wi-Fi 6 is part of a new naming approach by Wi-Fi Alliance that provides users with an easy-to-understand designation for both the Wi-Fi technology supported by their device and used in a connection the device makes with a Wi-Fi network.

As noted by AppleInsider, Apple has lowered the price of its BeatsX headphones from $149.95 to $119.95, while ditching some color options. The headphones are now available in just two colors from Apple, silver and black. Blue, gold, space gray, and even white have been eliminated, as has the black and red “Defiant” option.
