The Fused Suede Case is more iPhone sleeve than a case (and that’s okay)

I get to review a LOT of iPhone cases, and it’s rare to receive one that’s truly different. WaterField Designs’ Fused Suede Case is. How? It’s more of a sleeve than a case.

Made of two colors of Ultrasuede ER material fused together, the Fused is custom-fitted for Apple’s new Xs, Xs Max, and Xr iPhones. I’ve tested it with the Xs Max. When your iPhone is inserted into the Fused, it’s protected against bumps and scratches. When it’s not, it’s subject to damage.

The good thing is that  it’s available in “naked” and non-naked versions. With the former, you can install a slim case — such as Apple’s $39 Silicon Case or Leather Folio — on the smartphone and still use it with the WaterField Design sleeve.

Why would you want to do this? The Fused Suede Case has a pocket that can hold your AirPods, earbuds, or a charger. Or you can stash your cash and cards in the pocket to use the sleeve as an iPhone wallet.

A small opening lets you charge the smartphone, listen to music, or conduct conversations using earbuds, all with the device safely secured inside the soft-but -thick, lightweight case. If you like to stash your iPhone in your pocket or purse, the Fused Suede Case may work fine for you. However, I prefer to put my smartphone in a holster case, so it’s not for me.

The Fused Suede Case costs $29 and is available in four exterior/interior color combinations: ash/camel, camel/ash, navy/light blue, and red/ash.
