The iPod is back — well, as an Apple Music Easter egg

Apple today marks 25 years since the the iPod was introduced. And if you’ve been feeling nostalgic for your old iPod, you can head over to Apple Music’s 404 page to listen to music on a virtual recreation of the first-generation iPod, reports The Verge.

The hidden iPod was spotted by users on social media on Friday. It’s stocked with music from the early 2000s, like Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” or Gorillaz’s “Feel Good Inc.” The iPod seems to pop up on any non-existent Apple Music page, so you can find it by just adding a string of random letters after the main Apple Music URL,” notes The Verge.

The original iPod debuted with a 5GB/10GB hard drive and a mechanical scroll wheel, letting users carry up to 1,000 songs. The portable music player was released in various models —the iPod mini, the iPod nano, the iPod Shuffle, the iPod Classic, and the iPod touch  — until it was discontinued on May 10, 2022. Apple sold an estimated 450 million iPods.

Used and refurbished models remain popular on platforms like eBay Apple iPod Listings, where enthusiasts frequently upgrade older hardware with flash storage and new batteries. Refused or collector units vary widely by model, typically ranging from roughly $65 for older iPod Touch units to over $200 for rare or high-capacity classics.
