How to turn off the ‘Always Listening’ feature on the Apple Watch

The Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 come with a feature that passively listens to your audio conversations all day and can summarize them for you on demand.

The Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 come with (or will soon get) a feature that passively listens to your audio conversations all day and can summarize them for you on demand.

It’s part of a collection of features called “Audio Intelligence,” but the two key features are:

  • Live Rewind: If you double-press the Digital Crown on your Apple Watch, it will pull up a text snippet of your conversation over the last fifteen seconds.
  • Siri Recaps: Your watch listens to your conversations and generates an AI summary of any of your transcribed audio at the end of each day.

However, you can turn off “always listening” audio features, if you wish. Here’s how:

Turn Off Sound Recognition

  • Open the Settings app on your paired iPhone.
  • Go to Accessibility > Sound & Name Recognition > Sound Recognition.
  • Toggle off Detect using Apple Watch.

Turn Off Music Recognition

  • Open the Settings app directly on your Apple Watch.
  • Tap on Smart Stack.
  • Switch off Music Detection.

Turn Off Siri Audio Features (Live Rewind & Siri Recap)

  • Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  • Go to Siri.
  • Toggle off Live Rewind or Siri Recap depending on your preference
