Apple has added direct touch input to Sidecar with macOS 27 Golden Gate and iPadOS 27, allowing users to tap and interact with macOS interface elements using a finger on their iPad for the first time.
Sidecar lets you use your iPad as a second display for your Mac, extending or mirroring your desktop wirelessly or via USB cable. Here’s what the touch touch capabilities offer:
Direct Tapping: Open apps, click links, and select interface items using just your finger.
Gestures: Scroll with two fingers, swipe through menus, and resize windows easily.
Dragging: Click and move files, rearrange windows, or manipulate objects in creative apps.
You’ll need an Apple Silicon Mac and a compatible iPad to use this feature running macOS 27 and iPadOS 27 to use the feature. Also, both devices must use the same Apple ID with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on
You should note two limitations. The extended iPad display is restricted to landscape mode during testing. Small interface elements like window traffic lights can sometimes be harder to target with a finger.
