iOS and iPadOS come with a Measure app that allows you to draw (virtual) straight lines to measure objects and surfaces both vertically and horizontally using your iPhone or iPad camera.
Apple’s pro devices use their LiDAR Scanner to help you measure objects more quickly and accurately with the Measure app.
How to Measure an Object
- Open the Measure app from your home screen or search for it.
- Move your device slowly so the camera scans the area and calibrates.
- Place the white dot on your screen at the starting point of your item.
- Tap the plus (+) button to drop a point.
- Move your device slowly to the end point of the item.
- Tap the plus (+) button again to see the length.
- Tap the shutter icon (white circle) if you want to take a photo of the measurement.
- Tap Clear in the top right to start over.
How to Measure Rectangles and Boxes
- Point the camera at a rectangular object like a table, frame, or box.
- Wait for a yellow box to outline the object automatically.
- Tap the dimensions that pop up on the screen to view the size.
- Tap the plus (+) button on a corner and move along the edges manually if it does not auto-detect
