Stealthy helps protect your privacy when using your Mac to communicate with others

Stealthy helps protect your privacy when using your Mac to communicate with others.

Generally, I don’t do a lot of screen sharing and recording on my Mac. However, when I do I use the $12.99 Stealthly app for security and convenience.

It automatically prepares your Mac for such uses by hiding notifications, desktop clutter, private windows,  menu bar icons, the Dock, and private window. You may not need such features in day-to-day use. But if you’re on a Zoom call, on a FaceTime call, recording a tutorial, or demoing something to a client on you Mac’s screen, it’s a nice tool to have.

For privacy ressons, before sharing a screen most of us:  close apps, hide messages, move desktop files, clean up the wallpaper, double-check the dock, etc. Stealthly automates that process for you. For example, when screen sharing or recording starts, the app can automatically enable Do Not Disturb so private messages, calls, and alerts stay out of sight until you’re finished.

You can even set a schedule that fits your workflow. And you can use it to restore your set-up when you’re dong.

What’s more, Stealthly runs within the macOS App Sandbox, a mandatory security feature for Mac App Store apps that restricts app access to system resources, user data, and hardware (camera, microphone) to prevent malicious or compromised software from damaging the system.

You can purchase Stealthy directly from the product or from the Mac App Store. The former offers the “Full” experience and is the best choice if you want Stealthy to run automatically in the background. A one-time purchase, it includes automatic screen sharing/recording detection. Also, a 14-day, free demo version is available at the Stealthy website.

The Mac App Store version doesn’t include full automatic detection of screen sharing/recording. It also has limited automated behavior for display mirroring/extension. The advantage is that some folks like the convenience of purchasing all their Mac apps from the App Store.

Whichever version sounds best to you, if you’re communicating a lot with others on your Mac, it’s a tool you should check out.
