Here’s how to send text messages with Siri on your iPhone or iPad

Obviously,  you can send text messages on an iPhone or iPad using the virtual keyboard. 

However, it’s easier to do it using Siri, Apple’s “personal digital assistant.” Here’s how to do this:

1. 1. Activate Siri:
   • Say “Hey Siri”. 
     
   • Or, press and hold the Home button (on iPhones with a Home button) or the Side button (on devices without one). 
     
2. 2. Initiate the message: 

1. Say “Send a text message to”. 
   
2. Then, state the name of the contact or relationship you want to message. For example, “Send a text to Sarah.” 
   
3. If the contact has multiple numbers, Siri will ask which one to use. 
   
4. 3. Dictate your message: 

1. When Siri asks “What do you want to say?”, begin speaking your message. 
   
2. For punctuation, say the punctuation mark (e.g., “question mark”), but it’s best to say it without pausing to prevent it from being interpreted as a separate word. 
   
3. 4. Review and send: 

1. Siri will read your message back to you. 
   
2. When Siri asks “Ready to send it?”, say “Yes” or “Send” to confirm.
