watchOS 27 introduces a new Readiness app for the Apple Watch. It gives you a daily 0 to 10 score and a clear recommendation (Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready, or Go For It) to help you decide how hard to push your body each day.
How to View Your Score
- Open the Readiness app on your Apple Watch.
- Tap the Activity, Vitals, and Sleep buttons inside the app to see which specific factors drive your current score.
- Check the Fitness app or the Insights tab in the Health app on your iPhone for broader history and summaries.
- Add Smart Stack widgets or watch complications for quick glances at your score throughout the day
How the Score Works
Your score updates dynamically all day based on new data like calories burned, workouts, naps, and changes in your heart rate. It relies on three primary inputs:
- Activity: Looks at active calories, workout effort ratings, and training load. High overall activity lowers your score, while rest or steady activity raises it.
- Vitals: Evaluates daytime and overnight metrics (like resting heart rate and heart rate variability). Favorable metrics raise your score, while values that are off normal reduce it.
- Sleep: Measures your previous night’s sleep score and recent patterns. Consistent, high-quality sleep boosts your readiness.
The Readiness app is available on Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 for ages 13 and older. Note that the app doesn’t account for all health factors such as existing conditions or medications, and shouldn’t be solely relied on to determine whether and when it is safe to exercise.
For info about using the Readiness app safely, see Important safety information for Apple Watch. For models of Apple Watch purchased in the United States on or after January 18, 2024 with part numbers ending in LW/A or LS/A, Blood Oxygen is not available in the Vitals app. To learn how to identify your Apple Watch, click here.
