You can translate text in apps such as Photos, Safari, Messages, Mail, supported third-party apps, and more. You can also use the iPhone camera to translate text around you.
To translate text in apps using your iPhone’s camera, you can utilize the built-in Translate app’s camera feature or leverage the Live Text functionality in the Camera app. You can either point your camera at the text and translate it in real-time, or translate text from existing images or screenshots.
Using the Translate App’s Camera Feature:
- Open the Translate app.
- Tap the Camera icon.
- Choose the source and target languages.
- Point your camera at the text you want to translate.
- Tap the Translate Camera button to pause the view.
- You can then tap the overlaid translations to see more options, such as listening to the original or translated text, copying, or sharing the translation.
Using Live Text and the Camera App:
- Open the Camera app.
- Point the camera at the text you want to translate.
- Tap the Text Selection icon (three lines) in the bottom right corner of the viewfinder.
- Center the text you want to translate.
- Tap Translate.
- You can then tap the translated text for more options, like listening to the text, copying, or changing the language.
Translating Text from Existing Images:
- Open the Translate app or the Camera app.
- If using the Translate app, select the Gallery option and choose an image from your library.
- If using the Camera app, take a picture of the text.
- Tap the Text Selection icon (three lines) in the bottom right corner of the viewfinder or on the screenshot preview.
- Tap Translate.
- The translation will appear on the image.
