The Kontor Head Strap offers  clever counterbalancing for the Apple Vision Pro

Kontor Head Strap for the Apple Vision Pro

ResMed has launched the US$119.95 Kontor Head Strap for the Apple Vision Pro. It’s a good device for improving the comfort of wearing the spatial computer for a long time.

In fact, it’s now my favorite Vision Pro strap. I prefer it over the $39.99 ANNAPRO Head Strap (see my review here) and the $29 Halo Strap from VR Panda (see my review here). Of course, since it costs so much more than those two straps, it should be better.

According to the folks at ResMed, the Kontor Head Strap is crafted “with a blend of ResMed-exclusive ultra-premium materials designed to be gentle on the skin and allow for further customization of Apple Vision Pro with the option to utilize six included modular counterweights.”

The Head Strap is available in two sizes: standard for users that wear a medium or large Dual Loop Band, and small for users who wear a small Dual Loop Band. It comes with six modular counterweights and a product information guide.

The Kontor Head Strap looks like it was made by Apple; in other words, it has an elegant design. However, it’s thicker than the Vision Pro maker’s own Tri Loop Band so provides more surface area to distribute the weight. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to use it without any of the counterweights.

However, if you do need to add some for counterbalancing the spatial computer on your noggin, that will (obviously) add extra weight. One of the biggest complaints about the Vision Pro is that it’s already too darn heavy.

So when might you need the counterweights? If the Kontor Head Strap-equipped Vision Pro still feels front-heavy.  One, two, four, or six weights can be attached in different configurations.

The Kontor Head Strap comes with six counterweights.

All six weights, the head strap, and spatial computer combined weigh about 2.16 pounds. The good news is that you won’t feel all that weight on your head and neck as the weight is nicely distributed. Still, I found that the perfect counterbalance for me still left my neck muscles tired after about three hours.

If you don’t need the counterweights, that will help. And the Kontor Head Strap can be used with the Vision Pro’s light shield removed, further reducing weight. I don’t like to remove the shield, as its removal allows some external light to “leak” in.

Adding the counterweights isn’t difficult; the included product info sheet will guide you through the process if you have issues. And the Kontor Head Strap easily connects to the Vision Pro using the proprietary connectors with orange release tabs.

One strap sits at the nape of your neck, one on the crown of your head, and one atop of your forehead. With the the well-designed hook and loop fasteners, all can be quickly adjusted with one hand even while wearing the Vision-Pro.

Another plus: the ResMed strap is compact enough (especially with no counterweights) that you can use it lying down. That compactness makes it suitable for taking with you on trips.

I’ve read reviews from folks who say the Kontor Head Strap is the best third party strap for the Vision Pro. I still prefer the ANNAPRO, but, hey, you may feel differently.
