GameBaby cleverly combines an iPhone case with a game controller in one device

GameBaby cleverly combines an iPhone case with a game controller in one device.

In my younger days, I spent a lot of time playing games on ColecoVision and Atari game consoles, but not so much on the Game Boy handheld from Nintendo.

However, if you did and if you own an iPhone 16 Pro Max, you’ll want to check out a cool new iPhone case from Bitmo Lab: the GameBaby, a case for the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

First of all, it’s a reasonably protective case for the smartphone. What differentiates it from other cases is its that allows users to play games on their phone using a physical interface. The lower part of the case also serves as a game controller. You can detach it from the back of your phone and place it on the front in order to play retro games with a physical interface similar to those of the controllers of 16-bit consoles from the early 90s.

Interestingly, the GameBaby doesn’t employ Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or USB-C connectivity, and the case needs no batteries. How does it do this? According to 9to5Mac, Bitmo has applied the same material used in stylus pens for iPhones under the gaming buttons. The material mimics a finger touch input onto the screen, so each time you press the buttons down, the iPhone will be responsive to it.

The GameBaby supports GB, GBC, GBA, and NES button layouts, with custom emulator skins for compatibility across various handheld console layouts. Bitmo says this allows you to play over 7,000 games.

The best way to use the GameBaby is with Delta Emulator, an all-in-one emulator for iOS and iPadOS. The physical, silicone conductive buttons of the case are aligned with the ones in emulators like the Delta so you can play instantly,”

You can find more protective cases for your iPhone. However, I’ve found none (at least yet) that looks as cool and offers such nifty gaming features.
