The Cutting Edge T-Blade Trimmer is a fine option for guys who want something beyond ‘normal’ razors

The Cutting Edge T-Blade Trimmer is a fine option for guys who want something beyond "normal" razors.

Sometimes I get requests to review products that we don’t normally review at Apple World Today. Recently, I was asked to test drive the US$34.99 Dual Speed T-Blade Trimmer, so I figured, “Why not?”

Considering everything that it comes with, it’s a great value. The Cutting Edge T-Blade Trimmer features a zero-gap, hypoallergenic titanium-gold blade design built for close detailing, outlining, and fading. The rechargeable dual-speed T-blade trimmer features a gold-tone carbon steel blade designed for outlining, edging, fading, beard shaping, and hair detailing.

You can choose between 6000 and 7000 RPM settings to match your specific grooming needs. A convenient LCD screen displays operating speed and remaining battery power.

The grooming bundle includes one rechargeable dual-speed T-blade trimmer and one rechargeable BeardMate VAC handheld hair-cleanup vacuum. There are six cutting lengths: 1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm, 6 mm, 9 mm, and 12 mm guide combs.

To charge the Cutting Edge T-Blade Trimmer, you plug the charging cord into the trimmer and connect it to a USB power source.

Press the power button once for standard speed, or press again to switch between the dual-speed settings depending on whether you want precise detailing or a faster trim on larger areas.

When it comes to the guide combs, snap the comb firmly over the titanium T-blade teeth before turning on the motor to ensure an even cutting height. To maintain the Cutting Edge device:

° Use the small cleaning brush provided with your kit to sweep loose hairs away from the blades after every use.

° Place a tiny drop of clipper oil across the metal teeth to keep the motor running smoothly and prevent rust.

° If you are dismantling the T-blade head to clean or replace parts, use a small manual screwdriver or Allen key to loosen and remove the two screws holding the metal blade plate to the trimmer body.

My biggest complaint about the device is that it was a pain to remove the plastic guard that came with it. To do so you have to:

° Hold the plastic guide comb (such as the 1 mm to 4 mm guards) firmly on both sides.

° Push or pull the plastic guard straight forward or away from the metal T-blade teeth until it pops or slides off the track.

Sounds simple, right? However, it took an amazing amount of effort to remove the plastic guide comb.

That said, the Cutting Edge T-Blade Trimmer is a flexible shaving device that offers a reasonably close shave. However, the shave isn’t as close as I get with my trusty Gillette, which I’ll stick with for now.
