An Ubergizmo report claims Apple is expanding its foldable device lineup the iPhone Duo and is planning a foldable iPad for no sooner than 2028.
The article — quoting reports from “prominent supply chain sources on Weibo — says an “iPad Duo” may draw inspiration from foldable concepts like the Huawei MateBook Fold to “deliver a massive display experience.”
Ubergizmo says the foldable iPad is is projected to feature a flexible display measuring between 18-20 inches when fully unfolded. To ensure durability and a premium feel, the screen is expected to utilize ultra-thin glass supplied by Gorilla Glass. What’s more, Ubergizmo says “analysts speculate that the tablet may incorporate advanced nanotexture coating technologies—similar to those praised in other foldable concepts—to minimize the visibility of the central crease in the folding area.”
For a couple of years, there were rumors of a foldable iPad in the works. However, in an April 29 X post, the Weibo-based leaker “Instant Digital” said Apple has ditched its plans for a foldable iPad (an “iPad Ultra”).
Around the same time, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in a “Power On” newsletter that a foldable tablet is (or was) still in the works at Apple, but may remain an “unreleased experiment.” Various rumors about an “iPad Fold” may claimed that: a) it would have under-display Face ID, b) an 18.8-inch or 20.3-inch display when unfolded, and c) would utilize LG-made ultra-thin cover glass or Samsung display technology.
