MacRumors reports that Apple has posted a new job opening for a 6G Cellular Modem Systems Engineer.

The position has a base salary range of US$175,000 to $308,500 per year, plus stock awards and other benefits. The candidate’s responsibilities will include defining features and requirements for next-generation cellular modems, designing algorithms to improve performance and power efficiency, and working with hardware and software teams to bring those technologies to market.

From the job listing: We’re looking for a Cellular Modem Systems Engineer to join our cellular systems engineering team as we define and build the next generation of cellular technology. This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of wireless communication at a company that ships at global scale as we transition towards 6G. In this role, you’ll bring an end-to-end view of wireless systems — spanning 3GPP standards, feature definition and planning, design, hardware and software architecture and partitioning — to deliver leading-edge performance and power optimizations and features that directly improve the user experience across Apple products.

Apple designs and manufactures its own custom in-house cellular modems—starting with the C1 modem in the iPhone 16e and expanding to the C1X and C2 in newer models like the iPhone Air and iPhone 18 Pro—while continuing to transition away from Qualcomm hardware.
