Australians will have to prove they are over 18 to access certain features and download adult-rated apps on Apple devices, reports The Australian.
Today Apple said Australian adults will have to confirm their age on their devices by scanning an official identity document such as a passport, diver’s license, passport or government issued ID. They can use a credit card to prove their age but not debit or gift card.
“If you already have an Apple Account, Apple will check if you have a credit card on file or other eligible methods available to confirm that you’re 18 or older,” Apple told The Australian. “If you choose not to confirm your age when prompted, you can continue to use your device – but you need to confirm before you can turn off certain safety settings or download apps that are rated 18-plus.”
Apple overhauled its parental controls on iPhones, iPads and watches in February and again in June.
