Apple has prototyped, tested, and considered providing Apple Pencil compatibility for the upcoming foldable iPhone with a side attachment mechanism, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says in his latest “Power On” newsletter (a subscription is required to read the article).
However, he says that — bummer! — this probably won’t happen. The foldable iPhone — likely to be dubbed the “iPhone Ultra” or “iPhone Fold” — will almost certainly be unveiled at at Apple’s September 9 “Surprise and Shine” event. The shindig, which is for the media and analysts, will start at 10 am (Pacific). Apple will stream the “Surprise and Shine” event on YouTube, on the Apple Events website, and in the Apple TV app.
Also expect the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple Watch Series 12, and Apple Watch Ultra 4 to debut at the same time. Other possibilities include an updated Apple TV 4K set-top box and new HomePod minis.
