In a new Weibo post, the leaker known as “Instant Digital” says claims that upcoming models of the Apple Watch will be equipped with biometric authentication are purely rumors. In other words, no Touch ID on the smartwatch anytime soon.
From the post: Apple’s current strategy still prioritizes using the iPhone to unlock other devices via seamless connectivity.
Apple’s current focus is on packing in larger batteries and relentlessly refining its advanced health sensors. Integrating a fingerprint sensor, at least for now, only adds unnecessary cost and directly encroaches on battery space, making it highly unprofitable from a product-planning perspective
We can expect to see new Apple Watch models this September or October. However, no major design changes are expected.
