Quoting unnamed “people with knowledge of the matter,” the report says the capability will be offered as part of an AirPods software upgrade due later this year. It will purportedly be tied to iOS 19, the upcoming update to Apple’s mobile-device operating system.

Via the software update, AirPods will be able to provide a simpler translation process for folks who are speaking different languages. However, the process will purportedly rely on the Translate app on the iPhone.
