How to (mostly) revert iOS’s 18 Photos app to the old design

With iOS 18, Apple tweaked the Photos app — and some folks don’t like it. But it can be changed.

With iOS 18, Apple tweaked the Photos app — and some folks don’t like it.

Here’s how Apple describes the iOS Photos app: The biggest-ever update to Photos makes it easier to find and relive special moments. The beautiful, simplified layout puts the library into a unified yet familiar view.

New collections like Recent Days, People & Pets, and Trips automatically keep the library organized with on-device intelligence, so users can spend less time searching and more time enjoying their memories. Users can personalize their experience with a customizable layout that reflects what is most important to them and pin favorite collections to keep them easily accessible.

As noted by BRG, if you don’t like the new design, you can revert to the old one.

Here’s how: Open the new Photos app. ‘

° Scroll down until you find the Customize & Reorder option.

° Remove all options except for Media Types.

° Once you do that, you’ll have a new tab named “Media Types” with all your media categorized.

“With this change, you’ll enjoy a more familiar layout in the Photos app,” notes BGR. “In addition, you can tap the filter option when viewing all your photos, choose View Options, and remove things like Screenshots and Shared With You for a cleaner view.
