If there’s one reason why people select the iPhone Pro and Pro Max models, it’s because of the camera. Rumors have been flying for some time about the expected improvements coming for the iPhone 14 Pro camera. Let’s take a look at the most likely upgrades to be announced on September 7.
First, the wide lens camera is getting a boost to 48-megapixels! That’s four times the resolution of the current iPhone 13 Pro camera. From a competitive standpoint, it brings the iPhone into parity with other top-end smartphones. The lens can shoot video in 8K resolution.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that the Pro models also have a new ultra-wide lens with a larger sensor and pixels. This benefits users by allowing image capture with more light and less noise, perfect for low-light photography. By comparison, the existing iPhone 13 Pro models have a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens with 1.0 micrometer pixels. The iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max models will feature 1.4 micrometer pixels.
These camera components should make iPhone 14 Pro photography really outstanding, but will also raise the price of the phones. The iPhone 14 Pro models are rumored to cost about $100 more than the existing smartphones. The ultra-wide camera consists of components from a number of suppliers including Sony, LG Innotek, Minebea, VCM and Largan.
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max also have larger batteries and a new display supporting an always-on feature. The front-facing camera is located in a pill-shaped cutout different from the existing notch.
