The Apple Daily Report for Nov. 22, 2016

The AWT News Update is on hiatus while my compadre, Steve, takes a road trip. In its place, I’ll offer a text-only (no podcast) summary of breaking stories with a tip o’ my hat to my former website, Apple Daily Report.

According to numerous reports said to be out of Apple headquarters, the company’s Chief Design Officer Jony Ive hasn’t contributing much to Apple’s consumer goods design as of late, and has been more interested in architecture and similar projects for the last few years.

According to a New York Times piece, Apple now directly employs 80,000 people in the U.S. The company also uses 69 supplier facilities in 33 states to manufacture parts for its products employs 6,000 people in central Texas (up from 2,100 seven years ago).

Apple CEO Tim Cook called President-elect Donald Trump to congratulate his election victory, Trump said in a meeting with the New York Times today. Apple could not be reached for comment.

While the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar models are still not on display in UK Apple Stores, the first UK orders have now started shipping.

It has been discovered that playing a certain .mp4 video in Safari on any iOS device will cause the device to slow to a crawl and eventually freeze altogether.
