Maybe it’s time to cut the Mac mini, Mac Studio from Apple’s computer line-up.

I’ve long argued that Apple’s product line-up has gotten too confusing. That includes the Mac. I’d recommend cutting the Mac mini and either the Mac Pro or the Mac Studio as they represent just 1% of U.S. Mac sales each, according to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP).

Here’s how I propose the line-up would be streamlined: there will be one desktop for professionals/prosumers (the Mac Pro) and one for consumers (the iMac). The all-in-one could be offered in 24-inch and 27-inch versions.

The laptop line would offer the MacBook Pro for professionals and the MacBook Air for consumers. Of course, the desktop and laptops would be continue to be offered in different sizes.

  • What about consumers who have no need for the built in screen on the iMac? This is where the Mac mini comes in as the least expensive Mac for a consumer to purchase.

  • In the present range there isn’t an iMac for people who need significant processing power! The old 27″ iMac could take lots of RAM whereas the current iMacs don’t!
I think that’s where the Mac Studio comes in. It bridges the gap between the iMac and the Mac Pro which is only needed for talky high end processing!
If Apple released an iMac in 27″ form with large RAM options then that would negate the need for the Studio!
