Let’s take a look at the Velox Pro and Velox mini dash and windshield mounts

Like some of its predecessors, the US$79.99 iOttie’s Velox Pro dash and windshield from iOttie.com charges my iPhone and allows me to keep in line with the  law in my home state of Tennessee. And it improves on those that came before thanks to its CryoFlow cooling technology.

(About that Tennessee law: The law makes it illegal to hold your phone while driving in the Volunteer State. Hold a cellphone or mobile device with any part of the body and/or write, send or read any text-based communication and you’re subject to a stiff fine. It’s a good, practical law. And drivers are allowed to use GPS to navigate.)

With the Velox Pro (pictured above) you can choose between dashboard and windshield installation to find the perfect mounting location for your MagSafe iPhone.

The Velox Pro utilizes a built-in CryoFlow cooling system to draw heat away from your iPhone. According to the folks at hottie, as your phone charges and begins to generate heat, the semiconductor CryoChip draws that heat away from the phone towards an aluminum heat sink, where it’s dispersed by a 9-blade polycarbonate fan with 20 intakes to maximize airflow.

The CryoFlow system automatically turns on when a phone is connected. This keeps your iPhone cool and helps increase charging speeds.

It sports a streamlined telescopic arm with friction ring and snap lock that allows you to keep your phone in a variety of custom viewing positions — all without, of course, obstructing your view of the road. You can remove the USB-C cable when it’s not needed.

The Velox Pro attaches to dashboards and windshields via a suction cup. The folks at iOttie say the Velox Wireless Dash & Windshield Mount will hold your iPhone in place even on the roughest terrain. However, going up my long, bumpy driveway caused it to wobble when using the windshield mount. That said, most driving conditions aren’t as extreme as my driveway, so that may not pose a problem for you.

Magnets provide alignment for efficient wireless charging at speeds of up to 7.5W. Apple says that MagSafe “improves wireless charging for a better, more efficient experience and introduces an ecosystem of easy-to-attach accessories that beautifully complement” compatible iPhones.

Apple World Today rating (out of 5 stars): ★★★★

If you prefer a compact wireless charging air vent mount, iOttie offers the $44.95 Velox Mini. It has most of the features of the Pro, though it lacks the CryptoFlow system and has a different attachment system.

Tap your iPhone against the mount face and magnets will hold it in alignment. It’s easy to use; you install the Velox Mini by sliding the prongs onto your vehicle’s air vent blade, where silicone grips prevent it from slipping.

A ball joint allows you o adjust the cradle for an ideal and safe viewing position while you drive. A series of ventilation holes constructed around the mount help to dissipate heat and maintain airflow.

Apple World Today rating (out of 5 stars): ★★★.5

Both the Velox Pro and Velox mini are compatible with the iPhone 12 series or later, official MagSafe cases, and MagSafe compatible magnetic cases.
