How to tag cats, dogs, other pets in iOS 17’s Photos app

With iOS 17, you can tag your pets and have ‘em added to the People album in the Photos app.

With iOS 17, you can tag your pets and have ‘em added to the People album in the Photos app. What’s more, you can name ‘em just as you can with people and mark ‘em as Favorites.

When you name a person or pet in a photo or video, they’re automatically added to your People & Pets album and identified in other photos and videos in your library.

Here’s how:

° Launch Photos.

° Open a photo or video, them tap the “I” (info) button or swipe up to see the details. People or pets that are already named appear in the bottom left corner. A question mark appears next to those you haven’t named. 

° Tap the pet with a question mark next to their pic.

° Tap Tag with Name.

° Enter their name, tap Next, then Done.

To name a pet in the People & Pets album:

° Launch Photos.

° Tap Albums > People & Pets.

° Tap the pet you want to name.

° Tap Add Name at the top of the screen.

° Enter the name or tap a name from the suggested list.

° Tap Next.

° If a pet is identified more than once, tap Select, tap each instance where they appear, them tap Merge.

° Tap Done.

Photos shows the faces of pets and people that appear frequently in the People & Pets album. If you want to name a pet or person that hasn’t been identified, tap Add People at at the bottom of the People & Pets album.
