How to ask Siri to translate in iOS 13

Siri is multi-lingual. in iOS 13 (and 11 and 12), so it can translate phrases or ask the meaning of a foreign word. Here’s how:

Ask in English how to say something in Mandarin, Spanish, French, German, or Italian. Siri will translate the phrase. You can also use Type to Siri for translation.

To activate Type to Siri, go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Siri. Toggle Type to Siri, and you’re ready to go. Now, when you long-press the Home button to invoke the personal digital assistant, the standard virtual keyboard pops up with a “What can I help you with?” message displayed above it.

(This how-to is based on my experiences and info on Apple’s support pages — where the images sometimes come from.)
