Creative SXFI Air headphones are a great product despite some ‘gotchas’

By Dustin Darnell

Overall, the US$139.99 Creative SXFI Air headphones are a great product, although initial setup was the most complicated of any headphones I’ve ever used.  It involved downloading a special app and taking pictures of my face and each ear.  The app then used the images to make a personalized profile for me to optimize the sound quality. While this seemed like an interesting concept, it still needs a bit of work for the optimization.

Once everything is set up, you have the choice of listening with or without the personalized audio profile. I prefer to not use the personalized audio profile, as it sounds like I am in a very large room and the audio is coming from the far side of the room.

When I do not use the personalized audio profile, the sound is fantastic. So good, in fact, I had to work to determine if was mistakenly using the wrong option. The headphones have a nano boom microphone that drastically improves the call quality over other headphones without the nano boom microphone. Overall I’m very happy with these. And they work with Macs, iPhones, iPads, Android phones, Windows PCs, the PS4, and the Nintendo Switch.
