Smile releases TextExpander 5, adds snippet suggestions and more

<p>One of the favorite Mac apps for the blogging team here at Apple World Today is TextExpander from <a href="smilesoftware.com">Smile</a>. The app is primarily used to take frequently-typed words and phrases known as “snippets” and assign a key shortcut to them — for example, Apple World Today could be given a shortcut of “hAWT”, providing a savings of 13 keystrokes everytime that website title is typed. Smile has just released <a href="http://smilesoftware.com/TextExpander/index.html">TextExpander 5</a> for Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite, adding a number of helpful features to this must-have utility.</p>

<p><a href="bluelounge.com">Bluelounge</a> is an accessory manufacturer with a mission; creating well-designed accessories that people need and want. Over the years I’ve reviewed the company’s <a href="http://www.bluelounge.com/us/cable-management/soba">Soba</a> cable guides and used a <a href="http://www.bluelounge.com/us/stands/kickflip">Kickflip</a> with a MacBook Pro, finding the products to not only be attractive and useful, but also surprisingly inexpensive. Today I’m looking at two new products from Bluelounge; the <a href="http://www.bluelounge.com/us/chargers/portiko">Portiko</a> (US$24.95) extension cord and <a href="http://www.bluelounge.com/us/cable-management/pixi">Pixi multi-purpose ties</a> ($9.95).</p>

Feed the Line is a tricky precision game for iPhone, iPad

<p>Over the past few weeks we’ve talked about some charging stands for the Apple Watch. <a href="http://www.padandquill.com/apple-watch-accessories/the-timber-catchall-for-apple-watch.html">Pad & Quill’s Timber Catchall</a> is a solid wood beauty, the <a href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2015/5/18/hands-on-with-the-duet-iphone-and-apple-watch-dock">Duet Dock</a> features a solid aluminum iPhone/Watch charging solution, as does the <a href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2015/5/2/night-stand-for-apple-watch-and-iphone-first-look-at-a-kickstarter-project">Night Stand</a> Kickstarter project (which sadly doesn’t appear to be making it into production). AWT News Update: May 22, 2015

<p>My first wearable device other than a regular old wristwatch was a <a href="http://www.vintagecalculators.com/html/wrist_calculator.html">Sinclair Wrist Calculator</a>. Over the years, I had other calculator watches from Casio and the like so I naturally got excited about the idea of having a calculator on my Apple Watch. Fairly quickly, I had four — <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pcalc-the-best-calculator/id284666222?mt=8">PCalc</a> ($9.99, also <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pcalc-lite-best-free-calculator/id300311831?mt=8">PCalc Lite</a> for free), <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/watch-calculator-calcy-calc/id982843815?mt=8">CalcyCalc</a> ($0.99 launch price), <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/calcbot-intelligent-calculator/id376694347?mt=8">CalcBot</a> (free with in-app purchases) and <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/calc-best-smart-scientific/id576675190?mt=8">CALC</a> (free with in-app purchases). This is a quick look at these four apps, what they have in common, what’s unique and which calculator app tops my list.</p>
