Apple’s BeatsX wireless headphones reportedly delayed by 2-3 months

<p>Apparently, it’s not only Apple AirPods that <a target="_blank" href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2016/12/9/wsj-apple-still-working-to-ensure-that-two-airpod-unites-receive-audio-simultaneously?rq=AirPods" rel="noopener noreferrer">won’t arrive in time for the holidays</a>. Apple's BeatsX wireless earphones <a href="http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MLYF2LL/A/beatsx-earphones-white">had been listed</a> as "coming this fall" on its U.S. website. Now there’s only an option to be notified when they’re available.</p>

Apple’s Swift 3.1 coming next spring

<p>Apple’s Swift team plans to have version 3.1 of the programming language ready by spring 2017, then turn its attention to Swift 4, according to <a target="_blank" href="https://swift.org/blog/swift-3-1-release-process/" rel="noopener noreferrer">a blog post</a> by Ted Kremenek of the Swift team.</p>

Apple adds a ‘Report Junk’ option to iCloud.com

<p>Apple has <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/5ho97n/reporting_icloud_calendar_spam/">added a "Report Junk" option</a> to <a href="http://www.macrumors.com/roundup/icloud/">iCloud</a>.com to help combat a <a href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2016/12/1/apple-looking-into-icloud-calendar-spam-problem?rq=Calendar">problem with calendar spam</a>. It's supposed to be rolling out to iOS devices soon.</p>

15% of new cars sold worldwide in 2025 will be autonomous vehicles

<p>We know that Apple <a target="_blank" href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2016/12/3/apple-acknowledges-that-its-working-on-self-driving-cars?rq=Mansfield" rel="noopener noreferrer">has sent a letter</a> to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) acknowledging that it is working on self-driving cars. Its timing could be impeccable.</p>

Apple: governments are requiring more access to customer data than ever

<p>In the <a href="http://images.apple.com/legal/privacy/transparency/requests-2016-H1-en.pdf">latest edition of its biannual report on Government Information Requests</a>, Apple says that governments across the globe are making ever more frequent requests for access to customer data — and the U.S. makes six times as many account requests as China. The report covers the first six months of 2016. </p>

Apple looks to improve future earbuds with ‘beamforming’

<p>Apple has been granted a patent (number 9,516,442) to improve the audio quality of earbuds used with smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. The company says that under typical environmental conditions, the microphones in eabudds may do a poor job of capturing a sound of interest (e.g., speech received from a user's mouth) due to the presence of various background sounds. </p>

The Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb with Dimmable Light works well, but lacks Apple Home compatibility

<p>If you’re setting up a smart home, one item to check out is TP-Link’s $24.99 <a target="_blank" href="http://www.tp-link.com/us/products/details/cat-5609_LB110.html" rel="noopener noreferrer">Smart Wi-Fi LED Bulb with Dimmable Light</a>. It’s useful, but loses points because it doesn’t work with Apple HomeKit. Instead it uses the TP-Link Kasa app, which is a free download from the Apple App Store.</p>
