<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Qualcomm <a href="https://www.law360.com/technology/articles/1093163/apple-s-window-to-nix-patent-has-closed-qualcomm-says?nl_pk=ade0cf2b-ea3f-464b-bc93-d8e19277ac63&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=technology&read_more=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">has told a California federal judge</a> that Apple can't argue it doesn't owe royalties for a particular patent because its window to do so has closed. The chip supplier says that the patent has been newly injected into the companies' massive licensing dispute belies the fact Apple has known about the patent for months.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has finally announced its anticipated October media event. It will be held Tuesday, Oct. 30, 10 a.m. (Eastern) at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (pictured below), Howard Gilman Opera House. </p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has applied for a patent (number 20180302y06) for controlling the operation of a media device based on whether it’s currently being worn by a user. It could involve AirPods, Beats headphones, the rumored Apple Glasses (an augmented reality/virtual reality headset expected to debut next year or 2021), or a “faceplate with video/audio capability.</p>

It’s a gorgeous case, but not a very practical wallet, at least for me.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple’s plan to raze part of Federation Square in Melbourne, Australia, to build a mega-store is in danger thanks to a heritage recommendation for the landmark. Heritage Victoria executive director Steven Avery will on Thursday recommend the square be protected by adding it to the Victorian Heritage Register, reports <a href="https://www.theage.com.au/politics/victoria/heritage-tick-for-fed-square-jeopardises-apple-store-plans-20181017-p50aa0.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Melbourne Age</em></a>.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In a note to clients — as noted by <a href="https://appleinsider.com/articles/18/10/17/arm-processor-for-macs-coming-in-2020-or-2021-apple-car-in-2023-says-ming-chi-kuo" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>AppleInsider</em></a> — Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts we’ll see Macs with ARM processors by 2020 or 2021 and an Apple Car by 2023 (or 2024 or 2025).</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has extended its <a href="https://privacy.apple.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Data and Privacy portal </a>to the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Previously it was only available to customers in the European Union and a some other countries since May, following the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">You’re probably happy with the Apple Dock in macOS. It’s easy to use and very familiar. But Apple hasn’t really done much to the Dock since the company bought NeXT back in 1997, and it could be better.</p>
