<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has filed for a patent for an application menu for a video system. It hints at a revamped interface for its TV app, which allows you to continue to watch your favorite shows and movies, discover new content, and find new video apps, all from a single location. </p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Qualcomm <a href="https://www.law360.com/technology/articles/1093163/apple-s-window-to-nix-patent-has-closed-qualcomm-says?nl_pk=ade0cf2b-ea3f-464b-bc93-d8e19277ac63&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=technology&read_more=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">has told a California federal judge</a> that Apple can't argue it doesn't owe royalties for a particular patent because its window to do so has closed. The chip supplier says that the patent has been newly injected into the companies' massive licensing dispute belies the fact Apple has known about the patent for months.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has finally announced its anticipated October media event. It will be held Tuesday, Oct. 30, 10 a.m. (Eastern) at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (pictured below), Howard Gilman Opera House. </p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has applied for a patent (number 20180302y06) for controlling the operation of a media device based on whether it’s currently being worn by a user. It could involve AirPods, Beats headphones, the rumored Apple Glasses (an augmented reality/virtual reality headset expected to debut next year or 2021), or a “faceplate with video/audio capability.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple is teaming up with Oakey, which develops and manufactures sports performance equipment and lifestyle pieces, for a new Apple Pay promo: use the company’s mobile payment service in the Oakley app — available at the Apple App Store — or the <a href="http://www.oakley.com," target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">company’s website</a> and get $25 off your next purchase when you spend $100 or more.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">The <a href="https://www.mujjo.com/cases/iphone/iphone-xs-max" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Mujjo Leather Case for iPhone Xs Max (</a>approximately $48) is a “wallet case” for the Apple smartphone. It’s a gorgeous case, but not a very practical wallet, at least for me.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple’s plan to raze part of Federation Square in Melbourne, Australia, to build a mega-store is in danger thanks to a heritage recommendation for the landmark. Heritage Victoria executive director Steven Avery will on Thursday recommend the square be protected by adding it to the Victorian Heritage Register, reports <a href="https://www.theage.com.au/politics/victoria/heritage-tick-for-fed-square-jeopardises-apple-store-plans-20181017-p50aa0.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Melbourne Age</em></a>.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In a note to clients — as noted by <a href="https://appleinsider.com/articles/18/10/17/arm-processor-for-macs-coming-in-2020-or-2021-apple-car-in-2023-says-ming-chi-kuo" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>AppleInsider</em></a> — Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts we’ll see Macs with ARM processors by 2020 or 2021 and an Apple Car by 2023 (or 2024 or 2025).</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has extended its <a href="https://privacy.apple.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Data and Privacy portal </a>to the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Previously it was only available to customers in the European Union and a some other countries since May, following the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;"><a href="https://www.tagteaminc.sg/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><span style="text-decoration: underline;">TAG TEAM</span></a> has introduced the Laser TAGRider, a gaming accessory that mounts onto any toy blaster to repurpose it for real-world laser tag and/or compatible PC/Mac and iOS mobile games. </p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">As noted on its <a href="https://webkit.org/blog/8462/deprecation-of-legacy-tls-1-0-and-1-1-versions/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">WebKit blog.</a> Apple says it plans to move from Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1 to modern, more secure protocols. </p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple’s <a href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2018/9/12/the-iphone-xr-sports-an-a12-bionic-chip-and-liquid-retina-display?rq=iPhone%20Xr" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">iPhone Xr</a> will be available for customers to pre-order beginning Friday, Oct. 19 at 12:01 a.m. (Pacific) on <a href="https://www.apple.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">apple.com</a> and the Apple Store app.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">You’re probably happy with the Apple Dock in macOS. It’s easy to use and very familiar. But Apple hasn’t really done much to the Dock since the company bought NeXT back in 1997, and it could be better.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has been granted a patent (number 10,101,169) for an “architecture for distributing transit data.” It involves improved transit data on its Maps app for iOS and watchOS.</p>

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">macOS Mojave’s Night Shift is a feature brought over from iOS starting with macOS High Sierra. It helps you reduce the amount of blue light you're exposed to during the evening by shifting the display of a Mac to a more yellow tone.</p>
