IDC: Macs have 7.5% global computer market share in quarter four of 2016

<p>Worldwide shipments of traditional PCs (desktops, notebooks, and workstations) totaled 70.2 million units in the fourth quarter of 2016 (4Q16), posting a year-on-year decline of 1.5%, according to the International Data Corporation (<a href="http://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.idc.com%2F&esheet=51492755&newsitemid=20170111006082&lan=en-US&anchor=IDC&index=1&md5=23ce7459f5a94ae80f5709686d99af54">IDC</a>) <a href="http://cts.businesswire.com/ct/CT?id=smartlink&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.idc.com%2Ftracker%2Fshowproductinfo.jsp%3Fprod_id%3D1&esheet=51492755&newsitemid=20170111006082&lan=en-US&anchor=Worldwide+Quarterly+Personal+Computing+Device+Tracker&index=2&md5=0f761db10bbd30784cde3659e751c071">Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker</a>. The Mac pretty much stayed even in the global market for the quarter, but saw its market share dip when the entire year of 2016 is considered.</p>

Another member of Apple’s Mac team leaves for Tesla

One of the leading figures behind Swift leaving Apple

Apple: Consumer Reports MB Pro battery results were due to a hidden Safari setting

<p>As we <a target="_blank" href="https://appleworld.dreamhosters.com/blog/2016/12/23/2016-macbook-pros-first-ones-not-to-receive-recommended-ratings-from-consumer-reports" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported last month</a>, for the first time ever, <em>Consumer Report</em>s failed to recommend new models of Apple’s MacBook Pro line. The laptops did very well in measures of display quality and performance, but as far as battery life goes, <a href="http://www.consumerreports.org/laptops/macbook-pros-fail-to-earn-consumer-reports-recommendation/">models "varied dramatically"</a> from one trial to the next. However, Apple says the battery tests were inaccurate, as the publication had enabled a hidden setting in its Safari browser.</p>
