<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">As noted by <a href="https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ryanmac/jony-ive-leaving-apple-iphone-lovefrom" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">BuzzFeed News</a>, Apple CEO Tim Cook sent an internal memo to Apple employees about Jony Ive’s departure.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Jony Ive, Apple’s chief design officer, will depart the company as an employee later this year to form an independent design company that will count Apple among its clients. It will be a blow — in after-hours trading, Apple saw around <a href="https://twitter.com/stevekovach/status/1144351300160827408" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">$9 billion wiped from its market cap</a> —  but it also opens up some new, interesting possibilities.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR feature a Dual SIM with a nano-SIM and an eSIM. Now Apple has been granted a patent (number 10,334,427) for an “in-advance eSIM management notification.”</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple has announced that Sir Jony Ive, Apple’s chief design officer, will depart the company as an employee later this year to form an independent design company that will count Apple among its clients. While he pursues personal projects, Ive and his new company will reportedly continue to work closely and on a range of projects with Apple.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Sabih Khan, a 24-year Apple veteran, has been named to the company’s executive team as senior vice president of Operations. He’ll continue to report to Jeff Williams, Apple’s chief operating officer.</p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Counting those test driving the service for free, Apple Music has 60 million users, according to Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services — as reported by <a href="https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/apple-music-now-has-60m-paying-subscribers-worldwide/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Music Business Worldwide</em></a>. He adds that Beats 1, Apple Music’s in-house radio station, now has “tens of millions of listeners.”</p>

The biggest one? Nearly 1-in-3 Americans believe they have a 5G capable phone, when 5G isn’t widely available. </p>

<p class="" style="white-space:pre-wrap;">Apple will invest $100 million in Japan Display (JDI), according to an <a href="https://www.asahi.com/articles/ASM6V66MJM6VULFA03B.html?iref=comtop_8_08" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Ashia Shimbun</em> report</a>.</p>
