Apple’s wearables revenue is up 60% year-over-year

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">In its fiscal 2018 third quarter that ended June 30, the tech giant reported $3.74 billion in revenue from its "other products" division, which includes sales of Apple Watches, AirPods, Beats products, and iPods. Revenue was up 60% year-over-year.</p>

Apple reports best June fiscal quarter ever

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has announced financial results for its fiscal 2018 third quarter that ended June 30. The company posted quarterly revenue of $53.3 billion, an increase of 17% from the year-ago quarter, and quarterly earnings per diluted share of $2.34, up 40%. International sales accounted for 60% of the quarter’s revenue.</p>

Counterpoint: Apple’s iPhone has 8% of China’s smartphone market in quarter two

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">According to the latest research from <a href="https://www.counterpointresearch.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Counterpoint</a>’s Market Monitor service, smartphone shipments in China declined 7% annually but grew sequentially in quarter two of 2018. The top five brands — which includes Apple — captured a record 84% of the market (Apple has 8%).</p>

Apple’s Xcode among the hottest skills needed in the freelance market

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;"><a href="http://www.upwork.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Upwork</a>, a global freelancing website, has released its newest quarterly index of the hottest skills in the U.S. freelance job market. Apple’s Xcode ranks 15th on the list of the top 20 fastest growing skills needed; that’s out of the 5,000 the website tracks.</p>

Fleetsmith announces ‘zero-cost fleet visibility product’ for Apple users

Apple hires developer of Cyber Paint, an VR painting app

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">Apple has hired Sterling Crimson, best known for building a paint app for mobile VR headsets, reports <a href="https://variety.com/2018/digital/news/apple-cyber-paint-app-sterling-crispin-1202890174/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Variety</em></a>. The article says he’ll be working as a prototyping researcher at the tech giant.</p>

MacBook Air successor will reportedly use Kaby Lake processors (but I say it won’t be called a MacBook Air)

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">According to a translated report from Taiwanese publication <a href="https://money.udn.com/money/story/5612/3279500" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Economic Daily News</em></a> — as noted by <a href="https://www.macrumors.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>MacRumors</em></a> — the successor to the MacBook Air will pack an Intel Kaby Lake processor. Makes sense as the release of the Cannon Lake chip, which would have been a logical choice, has  been delayed again. However, the Sellers Research Group says the new laptop won’t be dubbed a MacBook Air.</p>

Juniper Research: Apple Pay will account for 1-in-2 mobile wallet pay users by 2020

<p style="white-space: pre-wrap;">New data from <a href="http://www.juniperresearch.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Juniper Research</a> shows that, driven by payment cards and mobile wallets, in-store contactless payments will reach $2 trillion by 2020, representing 15% of the total point of sale transactions. The research group predicts that the mobile contactless payments market will be driven by Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay and other “pay wallets.” </p>
