Apple is ramping up its work on foldable devices, according to a new investor note seen by 9to5Mac.
The report, from Haitong International Securities analyst Jeff Pu, says that Apple will begin mass production of a 20.3-inch foldable device in late 2025, followed by a foldable iPhone in late 2026. The devices are expected to be a foldable 20.3-inch MacBook/iPad hybrid, as well as a smartphone.
This isn’t the first rumor of a biggie-sized, foldable screen Mac. A December 2022 report that claimed that Apple is eyeing a mainstream commercial launch of the foldable device in 2026 or 2027.
Young says a foldable laptop could form a new product category. If it arrives, it could be a dual-use product: able to work as a notebook with a full-size on-screen keyboard when folded and as a monitor when unfolded and used with an external keyboard. The foldable could also allow for 4K resolutions or higher at the size Apple is investigating, Young added.
