Analyst: Apple likely to ship 200 million iPhones in 2020

In a note to clients, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo thinks that the release of a 5G iPhone in late 2020 will drive sales of Apple smartphones to 200 million.

“We believe the uncertainty has been removed after Apple and Qualcomm’s end of patent dispute and entrance into a six-year licensing deal, and Intel’s announcement that it will exit the 5G baseband chip business,” writes Kuo in a note to investors, seen by AppleInsider.

Samsung is expected to provide sub-6GHz modem parts, with Qualcomm providing modems mmWave markets. As for this year’s iPhones, Kuo thinks they’ll finally feature a 12-megapixel front camera and that the 6.5-inch and 5.8-inch OLED models (much like the iPhone XS and XS Max) are going to have a triple-camera system that includes a super-wide 12-megapixel lens.
