Rumors: new AirPods, 12.9-inch iPad Pro sales, iPhone 13s

The rumor mill is abuzz today with info on the next generation of AirPods, 12.9-inch iPad Pro sales, and the iPhone 13. Let’s dive in.

New AirPods 3 are ready to ship and the upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Pro will outsell the 11-inch tablet, proven Apple leaker “Kang” said on Chinese social media website Weibo — as noted by MacRumors.

Previous rumors have said that the AirPods Pro update will reportedly have a round design and eliminate the short stem that currently sticks out from the bottom. The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) says that sounds about right. “Kang” says when they ship, the second gen AirPods will be discontinued.

He doesn’t give a release date for the next gen iPad Pro, but says the 12.9-inch model will outsell its 11-inch sibling. It’s possible that the larger model will sport a mini-LED display and the small tablet want. Other rumors have both sizes adding a faster A14X chip and support for 5G.

In a note to clients — also noted by MacRumors — Barclays analyst Andrew Gardiner and three of his colleagues said iPhone 13 models will “likely” feature a fingerprint scanner embedded under the display for authentication, in addition to Face ID. They add that the upcoming smartphones will feature a smaller notch ,and that the LiDAR Scanner will remain limited to iPhone 13 Pro models.
