In iOS 27, Apple Notes provides seamless native support for importing and exporting Markdown files, making it much easier to transfer cleanly formatted text between Notes and other writing environments. Let’s look at how to use.
How to Import Markdown
You can bring .md files into Apple Notes on your iPhone using the native sharing system or direct copy-pasting:
- Via the Files App: Open the Files App, touch and hold the .md file, tap Share, and choose Notes. Confirm by tapping Import to save it to your “Imported Notes” folder.
- Via Instant Paste: Simply copy raw Markdown text from any source, open a note, and paste it. Apple Notes automatically parses the syntax and converts it into formatted rich text on the spot.
How to Export Markdown
You can export either entire individual files or specific sections of text:
- Export Entire Note: Open the specific note, tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up), and select Export as Markdown. If you do not see it immediately, tap More to find it.
- Copy Selected Text: Highlight the specific formatted text inside a note, open the edit menu, and select Copy as Markdown. This copies the text with clean Markdown syntax ready to be dropped into other applications like GitHub or external text editors
